The original structure on this property was constructed in 1905. The lot consisted of a full city block, and was bordered by streets on all four sides. It was a one room structure that measured approximately 20×30 (600sqft) It was built on the SW corner of the property with the entry door facing west. It did have a number of additional structures around back that were common for the time period.
An outdoor kitchen for cooking over wood fires, a privy, a barn for livestock, a chicken coop, and a wash-bin. There was no electricity, or running water although there was a well.
As far as we know, electricity and running water arrived in Georgetown in 1910 when a Light and Water Works plant was built on 9th Street. It was likely that this property didn’t get power and water until several years later. Even then, the house was not expanded until sometime in the 1940’s when a kitchen-dining addition was added to the north end of the house along Myrtle St.
50 years later the property owner added 3 bedrooms and a full bath to the east side of the home along 5th Street. We remodeled this home in 2013, and again in 2020. When the property sold in 2020, the buyers found the plans from the 2013 remodel, contacted us, and we contracted with the new owners to remodel it again.
During the 2013 remodel we removed the 1940’s kitchen and dining area, then we built a new addition to the house doubling the square footage to 3200 sq. ft. The addition included a full master suite, kitchen, dining and living areas, a utility room, Pella windows and doors, hardwood flooring throughout, complete bathroom remodels, and we expanded the existing space by removing several walls. We moved the front door to the south side of the house and installed a new custom double door, we added the wrap around porch, a two-car detached garage and some outdoor living space.
During this latest remodel, we did a complete kitchen remodel, including new cabinets and appliances, custom stone countertops including the large island, we remodeled the bathrooms again, and added a half-bath, we refinished the wood floors to make them lighter, painted the entire interior of the house, added an electric fireplace, updated all of the hardware and fixtures throughout, and we converted the 300 sqft workshop/storage space in the garage to a nice insulated and air conditioned “he/she” shed for hobbies and gardening.
This is what the current owner of this house had to say about it;
“We engaged T.A. Todd Construction as the General Contractor for an extensive renovation of our house in Georgetown’s historic district. I’ve renovated 6 other houses and built one. Tim is the best and most professional builder I’ve ever worked with. Always professional and courteous, he never “goes dark” and stays in touch.
It was a pretty extensive project – gutting the kitchen to the stubs, adding windows, all new cabinets in dining room, replacing a claw foot tub with tile tub and shower, refinishing 70% of the floors, entire house painted, converting 310 square feet of garage space to a finished he/she cave and more. He and the cabinet guy designed the kitchen and it is fantastic!
His subs are terrific folks as well. Every weekend during the two and a half month project at least one of the subs worked over the weekend. The project moved along at a much faster pace than I had expected. The final product is simply lovely and my wife and I couldn’t be more pleased. You’ll be happy you hired Tim, and I hope you do!”
